THE PROBLEM:
TANGIBLE prototype
Concussions in football and other contact sports are quite serious and happen quite frequently. The severity of the issue is heightened when some coaches decide to keep players on the field despite signs of possible concussion.
OUR SOLUTION:
The CONhelmet is a helmet which uses force sensors to determine if the player is at risk of a concussion based on the impacts experienced during a game. It features 3 different coloured lights (green, yellow, red) which light up depending on the player's risk of concussion.
Although the players will not be able to see the lights themselves while wearing the helmet, the lights will allow for full transparency behind a coach's call to take a player off the field, which will encourage the prevention of further worsening concussions when a player is at risk.

In addition to sensing the magnitude of force experienced by the player, the CONhelmet also takes into consideration the position of the impact and the time elapsed between consecutive impacts to assess for the possibility of coup-contrecoup impact, which has more damaging effects than individual impacts on the head.
