Final Deliverables

THE PROBLEM:
Ms. Liu currently suffers from inflammation in her joints, causing tremendous pain and lack of strength, predominantly in her distal joints such as her fingers. Additionally, she also experiences itchiness and joint stiffness which affects her fine motor skills. Aside from her medications, her only trusted remedy to relieve pain and itchiness is treatment with cold-packs. A particularly challenging task for Ms. Liu is opening a water bottle, as she does not possess enough strength to grip or twist open her current water bottle.
OUR SOLUTION:
The WaterBot is a customized water bottle design for Ms. Liu. Their are six main features of the WaterBot to optimize Ms. Liu's use of the bottle:

  • Lever System Straw Mouthpiece: The straw-like mouthpiece is      opened when the 2-finger lever attached to the mouthpiece               has a force applied to it.
​
  • 2-way Valve Flap: This valve is introduced as a cover of                            the mouthpiece to promote hygiene.
​
  • Ring Locking Mechanism: A locking mechanism to                           prevent accidental spillage from the bottle. To unlock                              the mouthpiece, the ring simply needs to be slid                                towards the back of the cap. 
​
  • Handle: A handle on the bottle will make it easier for                          Ms..Liu to grab onto the bottle
​
  • Silicone material: A silicone outer layer was chosen to                    increase grip on the bottle
​
  • Insulated Storage Compartment: This compartment allows Ms. Liu          to store a mini-cooling gel cold pack around the day so she can get relief when she needs it
